One NBA writer is proposing that the Boston Celtics trade for James Harden, who has requested a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers. Lee Tran of Fadeaway World proposed that the Celtics trade Malcolm Brogdon and Derrick White to the Sixers for Harden to form a new Big 4 of Harden, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis and Jayson Tatum.
“Whenever a star like Harden becomes available, teams should at least consider the option of adding them if it is feasible from a financial and asset standpoint,” Tran wrote. “As of right now, Harden’s trade value is lower due to his contract situation. This is the perfect opportunity for the Celtics to add talent and increase the team’s ceiling. Though there is obviously the chance of Harden leaving for nothing at the end of the season, if the team is winning, then Harden will likely want to stay.”
A future Hall of Famer, Harden averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists last season while shooting 44.1% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 86.7% from the free-throw line. The 2017-18 NBA MVP wants to get traded to the Los Angeles Clippers, but the Sixers don’t have to honor the trade request since Harden doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.
Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey’s asking price for Harden is exorbitant. Morey is believed to be asking for a lot for Harden because he feels comfortable with the idea of Harden returning to the team next season.
The odds of the Celtics trading for Harden are extremely low. It’s highly doubtful Morey would trade Harden to a division rival.
Harden intends to “never wear” a Sixers uniform again, sources told NBA Analysis Network. The three-time NBA scoring champion requested trades from the Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets and got his wish both times, so odds are Harden will eventually get traded by the Sixers.
