The Philadelphia 76ers are still in the middle of trying to figure out how they can get the most out of a James Harden deal. The Beard wants out of Philadelphia and while the Sixers are hoping they can reconcile with him, that doesn’t appear to be possible at the moment.

However, Harden did opt in to his $35.6 million deal with the Sixers. Philadelphia has the leverage here as Harden will have to play when the season begins in October if he is still on the roster.

Whether the future Hall of Fame guard will be happy about that remains to be seen.

Sixers legend Charles Barkley gave his thoughts on the situation with NBC Sports Philadelphia as he is urging the team to move Harden and focus on Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

I think it’s time for the Sixers to move off of James Harden. I think it’s time for them to make that trade and turn the team over to Joel and Maxey. I think it’s that time. That’s just my personal opinion. James has been a heck of a player for a long time, but I think it’s time for him for them to make the best trade possible, and that’s just my personal opinion

Barkley on why he thinks the Sixers haven’t moved Harden yet

Well, I think nobody wants to give James a long-term contract. I think that’s the real reason and I hope the Sixers don’t give him a long-term contract, but I think he wants a long-term deal and I don’t think at this stage of his career—because he’s only going to get older. So I personally think that’s the holdup
