You have to read the way the rest of the 49ers are talking about Brock Purdy. Maybe he flashed a couple of guys in the locker room and the fellas liked what they saw.
I think people are going to be surprised at how good Brock Purdy is. I don’t think he’s a total stiff. Yes, he was picked as Mr. Irrelevant. Yes, I said some bad things about him once upon a time in my stock report notes. Having said that, Kyle Shanahan is his coach so he’s going to work to some degree. Purdy was also a four year starter at Iowa State and threw for over 12,000 yards. It’s not like he has zero talent. Purdy isn’t going to tank this 49ers team. They’re too good for that to happen.
There is maybe an outside chance that Jimmy Garoppolo comes back that’s a big if. This is Purdy’s team now and moving forward. Thus far, it seems like the 49ers as a whole are happy with what they are getting with their third string quarterback.
Can the Iowa State hero keep San Francisco alive? Well, his debut, if anything, should give fans hope. 25/37 for 276 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick is pretty damn good for a 7th rounder. Maybe in the future it’s time to make some adjustments to the combine. Is quarterback ‘X’ hung? Might have to mark a check next to Brock Purdy’s name.
