MANILA, Philippines — The country’s daily COVID-19 infections are projected to range from 289 to 611 by May 15, said the Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday.
According to DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire in a press briefing, the projections were based on the country’s transmission rate, vaccination levels, and compliance with minimum public health standards.
As projected on April 11, national daily cases were expected to range from 289 to 611 by May 15, while daily infections in Metro Manila were expected to range from at least 30 cases to 122 cases in the same period.
But Vergeire reminded the public that these projections are only meant to help the government prepare its response to COVID-19.
“These are projections, these are not casting stones. Ginagamit lang po natin ang projections na ito to better guide our planning and our response, pero hindi naman sinasabi na mangyayari at mangyayari,” said Vergeire.
(These are projections; these are not casting stones. We are only using these projections to guide our planning and response better, but we are not saying it will happen.)
As of April 12, based on the DOH’s online COVID-19 tracker, the country has currently recorded a total of 4,084,030 infections of COVID-19, with 9,321 active cases, 4,008,280 recoveries and 66,429 deaths.
The DOH also previously reported a daily average of 278 cases from April 3 to 9, or during the observance of Holy Week.
